Description

Our dual-extracts are made with two high quality solvents in three extraction phases – cold water, ethanol and hot water. To honor the true spirit of craftsmanship and herbalism we create our liquid extracts in the traditional way of slow extraction by first soaking medical mushroom biomass in 43% alcohol for a minimum of four weeks. The Coral tooth pieces are then removed from the alcohol and gently steeped in spring water for 4-8 hours. Finally, the tincture and hot-water extractions are filtered and combined to create a potent elixir of bio-available compounds with a total alcohol content of +- 30%.

Hericium coralloides is often mistaken for being Lion’s mane, since they look very similar at first glance.  The two different mushrooms are in fact separate species in the same genus, Hericium. the common name for Hericium coralloides is Coral tooth and can be found locally in the temperate climate regions of South Africa’s indigenous forests. This mushroom offers novel compounds shown to stimulate nerve growth factor (NGF) and brain derived neurotropic factor (BDNF), these compounds are different than the compounds already present in Lion’s mane (Hericium erinaceus)

This means we now have access to more compounds that benefits our nervous system and cognitive processes amongst a host of other benefits that comes with this novel species. We are particularly interested in the potential enhanced benefits of stacking these two mushrooms for increased nootropic benefits and application for treating neurodegenerative diseases. Nootropics are supplements and compounds that improve cognitive performance.

This is our proudest creation to date. There is very little information online about the specific use of Coral tooth as a dietary supplement/medicine in comparison to its famous sibling Lion’s mane. We hope to continue our pioneering work to bring more knowledge to this and many other mushrooms, especially indigenous species.

When to take Coral tooth?

Take it with Lion’s mane to stack the neurological and cognitive benefits each of them has to offer. Should you only want to use one of them, replace Lion’s mane with Coral tooth and see which one works better for you.  In the morning for a boost in flow, focus and mental clarity  and again in the evening for a boost in REM sleep and dream recall.
